These carved emu eggs features the King of
Beasts, the African Lion. The Lion is the only cat with tufted tails
(both sexes) and manes (males). Shown here are a male and a
female.
In the world of big cats, the African Lion is
second only to the Siberian Tiger in size. Males average between
330-430 pounds with an length of 8 to 9 feet (nose to tail). The
female average between 250 - 350 pounds with a length of 7 to 8 feet
(nose to tail). The average height is around 3 1/2 feet at the
shoulder for both sexes. Because of the mane, this is the only cat
whose gender can be identified from a distance.
