American Indian Portraits

The carved and sculpted emu eggs on the following pages are of Gary's favorite subject, the American Indian.

There are many different nations within the appellation "American Indian".  Each has a different language, environment and culture.

The impact that Euro Americans had upon the native American Indian cultures was devastating.  The introduction of new diseases wiped out millions.  Domesticated plants and livestock replaced native flora and fauna.   The removal of  American Indians to reservations against their will in the 1800's resulted in the "Indian Wars" which further reduced their respective populations.

Below are samples of the American Indian portraits and scenes done by the artist over the years.  Included with each is a short bio.  To view a larger version of the egg and read a short bio of each individual represented, please click on the picture.  Use your back browser to return to this page or click on the Carved Eggs above to return to the home page.  Contact the artist for information on ordering.
