| American Bald Eagle
These carved emu eggs feature Haliaeetus leucocephalus,
the only eagle unique to North America. It ranges over most of the
continent, from the northern reaches of Alaska and Canada down to
northern Mexico.
A raptor, the bald eagle has large, pale eyes: a powerful, yellow,
hooked beak and black talons. The distinctive white head and tail
feathers do not appear until the bird is 4 to 5 years old. The
male will usually measure 3 feet from head to tail, weigh 7 to 10
pounds, and have a wingspan of about 6 1/2 feet. The female is larger,
some reach 14 pounds and have a wingspan of up to 8 feet.
According to researchers, Bald Eagles live 30 or more years in the
wild and even longer in captivity. They mate for life and build
huge nests in the tops of large trees near wetland areas. These nests
are often re-used year after year and may reach as much as 10 feet
across and weigh 2,000 pounds.
Our salute to the American Bald Eagle comes with a hand turned
wooden stand and can become a personalized gift with an inscription on
the back.
Because of the variations of color and texture inherent in the emu
egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make a distinctive
addition to any decor or collection. If you are looking for a
"different" housewarming gift, birthday present or other
special occasion gift for eagle lovers, the American Eagle Carved Emu
Egg will delight them.
