Bass
These two emu eggs feature one of the most popular game fishes in
the United States, the bass. Freshwater bass are kinds of sunfish
known as black bass. The most important species of black bass are
the largemouth, smallmouth and spotted.
Largemouth Bass:
Micropterus salmoides has a very large mouth and a large
upper jaw that extends behind the eye. It's color ranges from
green to black. An average largemouth bass would weigh between 6
to 8 pounds. The world record largemouth weighed 22 pounds, 4 ounces but
most state records are between 10 and 14 pounds.
Smallmouth Bass:
Micropterus dolomieui has a smaller mouth and its jaw does not
extend beyond the eye. The eye of the smallmouth bass contains red.
It's body is bronze or brown in color and its side markings look
like vertical bars. The world record smallmouth bass weighed 11 pounds,
15 ounces, but most state records are between 7 and 9 pounds.
Spotted Bass:
Micropterus punctulatus have smaller mouths and jaws like the
smallmouth, but are marked with rows of spots below the lateral line
instead of stripes. The world record spot weighed 9 pounds, 4 ounces.
Most spotted bass are smaller than 5 pounds.
Our salute to this sport fish comes with a hand turned wooden stand and
can become a personalized gift with an inscription on the back.
Perhaps your fisherman would like a rendition of his largest catch with
the date, place and weight inscribed on the back? Jimmy Houston
once said: "If bass fishing was as easy as we all want it to be,
then it wouldn't be a sport, it would be a habit." What is
your fisherman's favorite saying?
Because of the variations of color and texture inherent in the emu
egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make a distinctive
addition to any decor or collection. If you are looking for a
"different" housewarming gift, birthday present or other
special occasion gift for a bass fisherman, either of these Carved
Emu Eggs would be ideal.
