egg stands are hand turned from
"The woman should wear the dress, the dress shouldn't wear the woman." When Gary has finished sculpting or carving the egg, the next step is to match it up with a stand that complements it without overwhelming it. An ornate egg stand would overwhelm the simple beauty of the carved emu egg. The cup in so many commercially produced egg stands is so deep that part of the carving is hidden or it does not fit the emu egg well. Keeping these things in mind, Gary drew on his past woodworking experience to create a design to enhance the overall lines without taking away from the natural beauty of the egg. Working with native hardwoods is not easy. The cup of the stand is only 1/8" thick and only one in five are completed without breakage. Each stand is hand turned by lathe.
