Cheviot Sheep This hand carved emu egg features a herd of Cheviot Sheep. While commonly thought of as a Scottish sheep, the Cheviot actually originated along the border of England and Scotland in an area called the Cheviot Hills. They were introduced to Australia in 1938, but have been in the United States a full hundred years longer. Cheviots withstand extremes in weather very well and are excellent foragers. Unlike many breeds, the ewes lamb easily and appear to have a natural mothering instinct. This white-faced sheep has a wool-free face and legs, pricked ears, black muzzle and black feet. Because of the lack of wool on the face, the Cheviot is not prone to wool blindness. They are also resistant to foot rot and worms. The Cheviot is a long-wool type. The wool is springy to the touch and has a distinctive helical crimp which gives it a very desirable resilience. Commercially, it is often blended with other yarns for added resilience and durability. The Cheviot Carved Emu Egg has been carved "in the round" and can be placed as a table centerpiece as well as on a shelf. It comes with a hand turned hardwood egg stand. Because of the variations of color and texture inherent in the emu egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make a distinctive addition to any decor or collection. If you are looking for a "different" housewarming gift, birthday present or other special occasion gift for a sheep rancher or nature lover, this Cheviot Carved Emu Egg would be ideal. #200 Cheviot Sheep Emu Egg $210.00 |
