Don Quixote

This carved emu egg features the fictional character made famous by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra's novel Don Quixote de la Mancha.

Up until the time Don Quixote de la Mancha was published (1605), chivalrous romances had been the vogue in Spain.  Many felt that this trend created a false idealism which kept Spain from advancing in modern civilization.  Saavedra's novel satirizes the chivalric traditions of the Middle Ages as absurdly old-fashioned and established a new genré.   In addition to killing chivalrous romances, this novel stands as a outstanding social document.  Don Quixote and his squire, Sancho Panza, are thrown into contact with a world of materialism, where little respect exists for the chivalric traditions by which Quixote dreams of living his life.

Thought mad by his relatives and confined, Quixote escapes with the help of his servant (dubbed squire) and sets off to revive the glory of knighthood.

The Don Quixote carved egg comes with a hand turned wood egg stand and can become a personalized gift with an inscription on the back or with a windmill (Additional Charge).

Because of the variations of color and texture inherent in the emu egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make a distinctive addition to any decor or collection. If you are looking for a "different" housewarming gift, birthday present or other special occasion gift for an student of chivalry or medieval reenactor, this carved egg will delight them.
