African Elephant
This carved emu egg features an African elephant.
The Elephant family unit is matriarchal, or ruled by the matriarch
(older female). Family units may run anywhere between 6 to 20
elephants, usually all related to the matriarch. As the males
reach puberty, they split off into bachelor herds which often co-habitat
the ranges with/near the female family units.
Life Cycle: After being carried in the womb for 22 months, the
baby is nurtured by his older sisters and aunts until adolescence.
Calves are weaned by the time they are 5 or 6 years old (or at the birth
of a new brother or sister). Sexual maturity is reached between
the ages of 8 and 13. At this time the males will begin to
separate into bachelor herds. Elephants can reproduce until around
50 years old, and live 70 or more years.
The Elephant Carved Emu Egg comes with it's own hand turned wood egg
stand. Because of the variations of color and texture
inherent in the emu egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make
a distinctive addition to any decor or collection. If you are
looking for a "different" housewarming gift, birthday present
or other special occasion gift for someone interested in elephants or
endangered species, this egg would be ideal.
