Elvis Aron Presley
(January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977),

This carved emu egg features Elvis Aron Presley, an American Icon.  Known simply as Elvis, often called "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" or simply "The King."  Presley was an American singer and actor. During his two decade musical career, Presley set many records, such as concert attendance, television ratings, and record sales.  He became one of the best-selling artists in music history.

Presley started as a singer of rockabilly, singing many songs from rhythm and blues (R&B), gospel and country. The combination eventually became known as rock & roll.  His unique voice and style gave him huge success with rock and roll, ballads, country, gospel, blues, pop, folk and even semi-operatic and jazz standards.

During the late 1960's and through a large portion of the 1970's, Presley broke attendance records both on tour and in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was known for his on-stage highly energetic performances.

Presley left Sun Records for RCA in 1955 where he recorded "Heartbreak Hotel" and shot to stardom.  His manager, Tom Parker, booked him on a series of television shows, including The Milton Berle Show, The Steve Allen Show and The Ed Sullivan Show.  A seven year contract with Metro Goldwyn Mayer followed his short stint in the Army.  He stared in 33 musicals.

His   year marriage to Priscilla Beaulieu ended in 1973.  Following Presley's death in 1977, US President Jimmy Carter said, "Elvis Presley's death deprives our country of a part of itself. He was unique and irreplaceable. His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. His following was immense and he was a symbol to people the world over, of the vitality, rebelliousness, and good humor of his country."
