Emu
These carved emu eggs features a very appropriate subject - the emu! The emu originated in Australia and is in the ratite family
of birds along with the ostrich, rhea, cassowary and kiwi.
Standing 5 1/2 feet tall, it is the worlds second largest living
bird. In the United States (and other countries), the emu is
raised for it's lean, low cholesterol red meat. By products from
the emu include oil, leather, feathers, claws and the infertile egg.
Both these eggs are actually the same bird, the artist's favorite
rooster. If you are a ratite farmer and would like your favorite
hen or rooster on an emu egg, contact the artist for more information.
Both of our salutes to the emu come with a hand turned wooden stand and
can become a personalized gift with an inscription on the back.
Because of the variations of color and texture inherent in the emu
egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make a distinctive
addition to any decor or collection. If you are looking for a
"different" housewarming gift, birthday present or other
special occasion gift for a ratite rancher, bird lover or someone that
just likes the unusual this Carved Emu Egg would be ideal.
