Laurel and Hardy Carved Emu Egg

Laurel and Hardy

This carved emu egg is a tribute to the comedy team of Laurel and Hardy.  Stan and Ollie or "the boys" were not always a team.

Stan Laurel
1890-1965

Born in Ulverston, England as Arthur Stanley Jefferson, Stan was the son of an actor/theater manager whose influence in the entertainment industry allowed him the opportunity to develop his skills.  along the way he met and understudied Charlie Chaplin.  Eventually he wound up working for Universal Studios and made a series of short films.  In 1926 he began working with movie director Hal Roach.  It was while working on one of these films that Stan Laurel met Oliver Hardy for the first time.  Ten years later they joined forces to become one of the greatest comedy duos of all time.  In 1960 Stanley Laurel was awarded an Oscar for his creative contributions to the industry.  Stanley Laurel died February 23, 1965 following a massive heart attack.

 Oliver Hardy
1892-1957

Born in Georgia, Oliver Hardy studied Law at the Georgia State University.  Scary thought isn't it?  With Hardy as your attorney you could get life for a traffic ticket.  Of course, he'd be in there with you......

Somewhere along the way he became interested in the new motion picture industry and began working with the Florida based "Lubin Company".  Oliver Hardy was in over 250 films before teaming up with Stan Laurel to become a comedy duo.  After two decades of success with Stan, Ollie appeared without him in the Fighting Kentuckian (1949) and Riding High (1950).  Oliver Hardy passed away after a major stroke on August 7, 1957.

Few comics achieved the subtleness of their art form, which was neither totally slapstick, or totally pantomime.  In today's harsh world we need more men like "the boys".

This carved emu egg comes with a hand turned hardwood egg stand and can become a personalized gift with an inscription on the back.

Because of the variations of color and texture inherent in the emu egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make a distinctive addition to any decor or collection.  If you are looking for a "different" housewarming gift, birthday present or other special occasion gift for a fan of "the boys", this carved egg will delight them.
