Patrick Ronaynes Cleburne
March 17, 1828 - November 30, 1864
This carved egg features Patrick R. Cleburne, General, Confederate
States of America. Cleburne was born in Ireland and served in 41st
Regiment of Foot during the potato famine. He moved to American in
1849 and practiced law in Arkansas. In 1862 he joined the
Confederate Army as a brigadier general. He quickly became
recognized as a skilled combat officer, distinguishing himself in many
battles.
Cleburne (along with Granbury) died in the Battle of Franklin
(TN) in November, 1864.
Cleburne was fighting for states rights, and it was his suggestion
that Negroes be drafted into the Confederate Army in exchange for their
freedom. This suggestion did not meet with approval.
This particular rendition of Cleburne was done with the Cleburne,
Texas Court House in the background. However, it is available
without the courthouse.
This carved egg comes with a hand turned wood egg stand and can
become a personalized gift with an inscription on the back.
