Pierre Auguste Renoir Carved Emu Egg Pierre Auguste Renoir
(1841 - 1919)

This carved emu egg features Pierre Auguste Renoir, a French Impressionist painter.  Renoir is famous for his intimate portraits of French middle-class life.  He often used friends and family as models, showing them in sensuous surroundings.  In the 1870's he and Claude Monet developed the "broken-color" technique of the Impressionists.  Instead of blending the colors next to one another on the painting, they left dabs of different colors side by side, allowing the eye to blend them together.  Where Monet loved landscapes, Renoir loved the human figure.

As a child Renoir showed a talent for painting, so he was apprenticed to learn porcelain painting.  He moved on from that to painting window shades and women's fans, and eventually to portrait painting.  In his later years his hands were crippled by arthritis.  Rather than give up painting, he had the brushes tied to his hands and developed a new style of painting utilizing broad brush strokes and vivid colors.

This carved egg comes with it's own hand turned hardwood egg stand, and  can become a personalized gift with an inscription on the back.

Because of the variations of color and texture inherent in the emu egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make a distinctive addition to any decor or collection.
