This carved emu egg features the Portland Head Light. The oldest lighthouse in Main, Portland Head Light is a part of the 90 acre Fort Williams park located in Cape Elizabeth, Main. Construction on the lighthouse began in 1787 but stopped when money ran out. After election of Washington as president in 1789, a special interest was given to maritime commerce and construction resumed. Joseph Greenleaf assumed the position of lightkeeper on January 10, 1791 by lighting the first light. It cost $1500.00 to build this beauty in 1791. Our salute to the Portland Head Light comes with a hand turned wooden stand and can become a personalized gift with an inscription on the back. Because of the variations of color and texture inherent in the emu egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make a distinctive addition to any decor or collection. If you are looking for a "different" housewarming gift, birthday present or other special occasion gift for a lighthouse fan, the Portland Head Lighthouse Carved Emu Egg would be ideal. #204 Portland Head Light Carved Emu Egg $95.00 |
