Ruby Throated Hummingbird Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

This carved and painted emu egg features the shimmering jewel of the bird world, the ruby-throated hummingbird.

Only three and a half inches long, the ruby-throated hummingbird can fly forward and backward or hover on wings that vibrate so fast that they are impossible to see.

The males are very territorial and guard their flower patches vigorously from other males.  The two hummers to the left will be fighting in a moment!  The ruby coloring at the throat distinguishes the male from the female.  Humming birds do eat nectar, but the primary food is minute insects barely visible to the human eye.

This carved egg comes with a hand turned wood egg stand and can become a personalized gift with an inscription on the back.

Because of the variations of color and texture inherent in the emu egg itself, each carved egg will be unique and make a distinctive addition to any decor or collection.  If you are looking for a "different" housewarming gift, birthday present or other special occasion gift for an "birder", this carved egg will delight them
